While on twitter the other day i saw a post from Ryan Singer, the UI design, code, and product management at 37signals, which names the three line navigation icon the “Hamburger Icon”. Singer sort of credits Craig Mod, an independent writer, designer and publisher, who posted the following image of the three line icon with a hamburger.

OF COURSE, i fell in love with the name and promptly talked it over with my co-worker AJ Troxell and decided to make our own hamburger icons. Not really sure how functional it is as an icon, but i love it.
